Vasilica denotes the Orthodox New Year and is celebrated on January 14th every year. In the village of Capari, this holiday marks the annual Babari Karneval festival. On this day, the men (and sometimes women) of the village dress up in elaborate costumes and masks and theatrically parade around the village, warding off evil spirits along the way. The tradition always includes men dressed up as a bride and groom leading a traditional Macedonian dance and satirical depictions of current events. Caparci prepare for this day months in advance and always deliver an amazing show. The Babari tradition has only survived in a few villages in Macedonia and is a tourist attraction for the village of Capari every year.
